Drinking up to three cups of coffee in a day may protect the heart, suggests a new study presented at the annual meeting of the European Society of Cardiology.
It was noted that for people with no diagnosis of heart disease, regular coffee consumption of 0.5 to 3 cups a day was tied to reduced risk of death from heart disease, stroke and early death from any cause, in comparison with people who did not drink coffee. The study looked at the coffee drinking behavior of more than 468,000 individuals who participated in the UK Biobank Study.
A large analysis of data from three major studies in April had revealed that drinking one or more cups of plain, caffeinated coffee a day was linked to a long-term reduced risk of heart failure. This analysis had revealed that in comparison with people who did not drink coffee, the risk of heart failure decreased over time from 5% to 12% for each cup of coffee consumed a day in two of the studies… (CNN, August 28, 2021)
